Barnet Conservatives strongly condemn the Labour Government’s latest escalation against Israel.
The Government’s decision to ban trade with Israeli settlements and impose further restrictions represents a dangerous shift in Britain’s relationship with Israel.
This is not simply a foreign policy debate. The consequences will be felt on Britain’s streets, risking further division and antisemitic violence at precisely the moment when Jewish communities need reassurance and solidarity.
For Barnet, this issue is particularly important. Our borough is home to one of Britain’s largest Jewish communities. Residents deserve to know where their elected representatives stand.
Barnet’s Labour MPs cannot have it both ways. They are members of the governing party and, collectively, bear responsibility for the Government’s actions. If they disagree with this policy, they should say so publicly and make their opposition clear.
Barnet Conservatives stand with Israel’s right to exist and defend itself, oppose antisemitism in all its forms, and believe Britain should work with democratic allies rather than isolate them.
At a time when community cohesion is already under enormous pressure, Labour should be bringing communities together, not pursuing policies that risk making British Jews feel increasingly isolated and vulnerable.
