 Minister of State for Transport
Theresa's Experience
For many years, Theresa has been campaigning on important local issues for Barnet such as: putting more police on the beat; defending the suburbs; conserving the Green Belt and our local environment; working to reunite Cyprus; demanding a more reliable tube; and improving our local hospitals and schools.
Theresa has appeared regularly in the national media including BBC Today, Any Questions and Question Time. From 2001 to 2002 she was Deputy Leader of the Conservatives in the European Parliament and a member of the governing board of the Conservative Party. She is a Vice President of the party's youth organisation, Conservative Future.
During her 6 years in the European Parliament, Theresa fought hard against the Euro, the European Constitution and she opposes extension of EU power. She would like to see EU powers in important areas returned to Britain. She has also campaigned strongly against EU red tape, such as new directives on financial services that would undermine the success of the City of London. She was at the forefront of attempts to amend the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive to prevent it damaging UK financial markets. Her other parliamentary work focused on issues such as getting a better deal for the consumer, improving animal welfare and fighting fraud and waste of taxpayers' money by the EU.
